I know it’s a bit late in the year, but I feel like I need some closure for 2011. I’ve gathered some of my favorite images from last year’s weddings. Looking back always gets me excited and motivated for this coming season.
There’s so many great memories that I shared from each of these days that changed one boy and one girl’s life. I love how photography seals those memories forever.

Heather Hightower and Laura Van Camp were kind enough to ask for my assistance in promoting their new location directly on the downtown mall of Charlottesville – right in the middle of the “Garment District”.
Newly designed and renovated, Jean Theory: is now open for business. The exterior has a very attractive “art deco” feel, and the interior is a nice blend of modern and minimalism. Watch the video to see the space, hear how everyone is excited for Laura, and how the girls of Jean Theory: want you in their pants!

New Packaging-Pensacola Wedding Cinematography

Product Packaging

I’m really excited to release my new product packaging for my wedding cinematography clients for this year.
With all the immediate gratification of our current digital era, I wanted to bring back the quality and feel of handcrafted products.
Each box will include:
-Two DVDs, one for the parents on each side of the family
-Each DVD is enclosed is a LOKTAH Rustic DVD Case
-One handmade wooden USB thumb drive imported from a craftsman in Germany and laser-engraved locally by Sara with In A Flash Laser Engraving
-Lastly, a letter is enclosed in an envelope from me to the couple. Keeping in the spirit, the letter is hand-typed on an Olivetti 33 typewriter and tea-stained by hand.
All together, the packaging takes about a week worth of evenings. To me, it’s worth it.
It’s worth it to create more than just a sloppy DVD and a thumb drive from Best Buy. For the most important day in a young couple’s life, I wanted something that they would be proud to display on their shelf. I wanted an heirloom that they can show their children and their grandchildren.
I wanted everlasting memories. I wanted a quality product that would last.

Wedding Photography Minimalism – Charlottesville Wedding Photography

One photographer that I admire – Bryan Bartlett – inspired me by his images. When he posts images, he seldom posts more than a dozen images. No matter if it’s a wedding, a senior portrait, or just some family event. In that spirit, how many pictures is too many?
Within the wedding photography, you often hear it referred as almost a badge of honor when someone shot 1400, 1800 or over 2000 at a wedding. That only makes one question: are we photography artists, or an image insurance?
Can a bride trust the skill of their photographer enough to only take a fraction of those pictures?
Taking it further, what if the bride were to only want one image of the entire day? What would that photo look like? Would it resemble the attached photo? Would the photographer be trusted enough? Would they be able to deliver that one image?
Why not just one image?
When you boil that day down to one take-away, couldn’t it be distilled into one image?
As wedding photographers, we should look for those sole images that sum up the entire day. If we get bogged down with thousands of images to process, let’s reduce that number. If the bride and groom believes in you, why could you not deliver just one image? What would you miss that all the other guests would not have captured as well?
There’s probably no immediate answer, but I ask that you embrace the question. Would you remember your wedding day with just one photo?

Festive bridesmaids-Charlottesville Wedding Photography

When you spend a lot of time photographing weddings, you notice things. One of those things is bridesmaids.
“Chris, you perv, you’re married!”
No, it’s not like that. The thing that I’ve noticed about bridesmaids is how they seem to be the emotional outlet for the bride. Being overwhelmed with the day and the emotions, most brides are almost catatonic. Bridesmaids seem to express for the bride. Joy, anxiety, fear, happiness, giddiness.
There’s a good reason that certain ladies are chosen by the brides as their bridesmaids. Consciously, they’re close and they often look good in a dress. Subconsciously, it’s their emotional connection that supports her during the day. When it comes time for the first kiss, it’s their celebration that is the best expression of the bride’s joy.
